So I walked down to the phone shop and explained in horrible Japanese (I thought I had my electronic dictionary in my bag... I didn't) the problem. After a lot of embarrassing moments for both of us I got a loaner phone and mine should be repaired in a week or two. Which sucks, on the plus side it only cost me about 500 yen due to a loophole I am exploiting in the pricing plan.
Still, now I have to rebuild my phone book from people calling/emailing me on the loaner phone only to then erase it when I give it back. There is a pretty good chance my info will be lost when they repair my phone so I will have to rebuild my phone book AGAIN, all in a few weeks. But the worst part is if the data is lost some of it will not be recoverable, like some of my old students' contact information. I'm really upset about that, fingers crossed my data remains miraculously intact.
