This Thursday I am going to my first concert ever (if you don’t count free concerts). Dan and I are going to see Rockapella at a club in Umeda. When I was younger, Jeff had the “Where in the world is Carman San Diego?” CD, which was performed by Rockapella (the in house band for the show). We use to listen to that CD from time to time when we would craft our various school mega-projects. I am not a concert going person on the whole, but the surreal nature of, first of all, seeing Rockapella was tempting. Add to that the fact that I would be seeing Rockapella IN JAPAN, and that all adds up to a must see show. It is like some strange parallel universe, going to a club to see Rockapella in Japan. I have been listening to some of Rockapella’s songs to get me more pumped for the concert. I was amazed to discover Rockapella is a lot more than just “Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?” Which is good, because, as Dan put it, “I don’t know if I could listen to a 2 hour extended version of ‘Where in the World is Carman San Diego?’” It turns out Rockapella is really very good. They take rock songs and sing them acapella. They even now have a “drummer” who makes drum noises exclusively. They are like the Obertones, which makes me a bit homesick (schoolsick?) for Oberlin. Right now I am hooked on Rockapella’s version of “Sweet Home Alabama.” I can’t wait for this cultural experience. I am hoping that the show starts with the famous tag line from the Carman San Diego TV show, “Do it Rockapella!” I am super pumped for Rockapelloosa (which is totally what this concert should be called). |
omg you are such a lucky bastard! I would *kill* to see Rockapella. Maybe the lead singer still has his mullety blonde braids... but i hope, for your sake, that they have given up wearing silk shirts and tight-rolled acid wash jeans. HAHAHAHA suffer as I thrill to silken shirt, long mullety blonde braids and even "gum shoe" hats! Wait...Rockapella sings more than "where in the world is carman San Diego" ?!?! WOW! they are cool. I'm with Lisl on the killing for Rockapella, but I don't think takes much to make me kill these days. Currently on my hitlist are: Jobs, good bars, quality educational television, a car, public transportation, and a job. Just kall me "Katie Kills for Hire"
