I don’t know the origin of the term, but in Japan there are a group of people called “Yankis” (pronounced like the New York Yankees Baseball team). Yankis are guys that ride really loud motorcycles. They are antisocial bad boys (by Japanese standards) with cool hair and fast bikes. By law you have to wear a helmet when riding a motorbike in Japan. To give you an idea of how bad ass Yankis are, they wear a helmet BUT they wear the helmet around their necks, like a sombrero! How anti-social is that? Apparently a certain percentage of Yankis do go on to join the Yakuza (the Japanese mafia). Anyway, I hate Yankis because of their loud annoying bikes. Last night I went to bed early, to adjust back to school time, but at about 9:30-10 a Yanki revs his bike in my parking lot for over a minute with seemingly no sound muffling system installed on the bike. This caused me to semi-wake up and enjoy the joys of my dream and reality overlapping and thoroughly confusing and startling me. By the time I realized it was just a bike (that had been roaring at like 2000 decibels for over a minute) he had zoomed away into the night. At this point I had gotten a hearty dose of adrenaline pumped into me. I tried to go back to sleep, but the adrenaline and the fact that I had more or less just taken a “power nap” prevented me from getting back to bed. I ended up giving up, got up and played a few turns of Civ3 until around 12, I probably wasn’t asleep again until around 1. Stupid Yanki.
