Well Mom and Dad made it safely back to the States yesterday. It was great to have them here, and I already miss having company when I get home form work. But one thing I don’t miss is three beds sprawled out on my floor and my kitchen being overrun with suitcases. But it was great despite the minor inconvenience. We didn’t get to do everything we wanted to, but mom and dad said they had a great time and I had a great time having them, so who cares?
It is funny because they said due to the cost this will probably be the only time they visit me, but by the end of the trip they were frequently saying, “Next time we come we will have to…” so I think Japan has worked its friendly to Americans magic on them. Mom found city life to be a little overwhelming. Understandable, considering I still find city life a little overwhelming. She was happy when we could escape to the mountains and walk the paths and were not so boxed in. I found it rejuvenating as well.
Our big trip was to Kyoto. We saw two Zen temples (Ryonji and a name I forgot), the Golden Pavilion, and a super great find a bamboo forest! I have updated my flicker site (link in the left tool bar or right HEREe) so be sure to check out the 12 picture awesomeness of the “Old City.”
