Mom and Dad Safe and Sound - A Recovering Physicist's Apology

About Mom and Dad Safe and Sound

Previous Entry Mom and Dad Safe and Sound Nov. 10th, 2004 @ 08:46 pm Next Entry
Well Mom and Dad made it safely back to the States yesterday. It was great to have them here, and I already miss having company when I get home form work. But one thing I don’t miss is three beds sprawled out on my floor and my kitchen being overrun with suitcases. But it was great despite the minor inconvenience. We didn’t get to do everything we wanted to, but mom and dad said they had a great time and I had a great time having them, so who cares?

It is funny because they said due to the cost this will probably be the only time they visit me, but by the end of the trip they were frequently saying, “Next time we come we will have to…” so I think Japan has worked its friendly to Americans magic on them. Mom found city life to be a little overwhelming. Understandable, considering I still find city life a little overwhelming. She was happy when we could escape to the mountains and walk the paths and were not so boxed in. I found it rejuvenating as well.

Our big trip was to Kyoto. We saw two Zen temples (Ryonji and a name I forgot), the Golden Pavilion, and a super great find a bamboo forest! I have updated my flicker site (link in the left tool bar or right HEREe) so be sure to check out the 12 picture awesomeness of the “Old City.”

That crab, man. THAT FREAKIN' CRAB!!

At first glance it did remind me of a Zergling, but now I'm thinking Lurker.

I second that. But I'm sure it's got a Zerg rush right behind it...

Yes a lurker is a good pick, but I was thinking overlord. Lurkers are more set low to the ground. It doesn't really have the large claws of the overlord but those long legs and the way they seemed to float there in space I was expecting zerglings to come running out at any moment. But looking at the picture I could also see some burrowing action followed by a row of spines coming my way. I will never go swimming here...

But wouldn't it be awesome to go down, Starcraft-style?

Correction: wouldn't it be cool to go down, Starcraft-style, if someone else was there to retell the tale at a later date?
